BREAKING: Obaseki Receives Atiku, Ooni Of Ife, Seeks Improved Collaboration With Traditional Institutions To Tackle Insecurity, Others

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has called for increased collaboration between governments at all levels and the traditional institution to tackle the problem of insecurity and other challenges confronting the country.

Obaseki made the call when he received the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, who was on a courtesy visit at the Government House Benin City, on Monday, August 23, 2021.

The governor also received in audience former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

Obaseki, who identified insecurity and food challenges as some of the biggest problems facing the nation, noted that working with the traditional institution, governments at all levels “will be able to tackle these issues which will lead to the economic development of the nation.”

According to him, “One of the biggest challenges that we have today is insecurity, as hoodlums terrorise our lives in various communities across the country.

“If we must tackle the security challenges facing this country, Government must work very closely with the traditional authorities who are well-grounded in the grassroots and know the people well to bring to an end the security challenges facing this country. We are already doing that in Edo State and the results are there to show.”

The governor continued: “The economy of our country is not doing well and we all have a big role to play. Without us producing more for ourselves, we wouldn’t be able to sustain our current level of imports.

“It means that we will not be able to get sufficient foreign exchange to bring in what we consume. The exchange rate will begin to rise, the price of commodities will continue to go up and our people will dive more into poverty.

“The traditional institution has a role to play, as we encourage our people to farm and produce more foods to feed ourselves. In the first half of this year, we have spent N1 trillion naira importing food and it’s not sustainable.

“Government cannot do it alone; we encourage our young people to know that agriculture is a viable business in the country,” he added.

Reassuring his government’s commitment to sustain the partnership with the traditional institution in the state, Obaseki stated: “We embrace the traditional institution in Edo State as they have a deep sense of understanding of the challenges and problems in our local communities.

“Edo State is the home of culture and tradition and we don’t joke with it. We hold our traditional institutions in high regard and will do all to protect, sustain and support them.”

The governor further commended the Ooni for his passion and commitment to the unity and development of the country.

Commending Atiku for his contributions to the advancement of the country’s democracy, Obaseki said,”I cannot thank you enough for the leadership that you continue to provide; the counsel you gave me during my electioneering, the private conversations, and the assistance you rendered to me when we joined the party; we had challenges, but you stepped up and threw your weight behind the resolution of the issues.”

Earlier, the Ooni of Ife congratulated the governor on his victory in the September 19, 2020 gubernatorial election, hailing his government’s developmental strides across all sectors of the state.

He assured the governor that traditional rulers will continue to work with constituted authorities to move the nation forward, and advised him not to be distracted but to remain focused and double his efforts in making life better for Edo people, particularly the youths.

On his part, Abubakar said his meeting with the governor centered on governance, current issues in the country, and how the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) could be strengthened to take over power in 2023.

How Afghanistan Fell Weeks After Obasanjo Attended Peace Meeting In Kabul

Days ago, on Sunday, the Islamic militant group known as the Taliban retook Kabul, Afghanistan’s capital city, but the fall of the landlocked Asian country had been seen by many observers when US President Joe Biden started the withdrawal of American forces from Afghanistan beginning in early July.

To avert the imminent collapse of the war-torn country with 39 million people and promote peace and stability, ex-Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo, had in July travelled to Kabul and met with some leaders of the country as well as envoys of neighbouring countries.

Obasanjo, unarguably one of the prestigious global citizens from Africa, had met with the Ambassador of Pakistan to Afghanistan, Mansoor Ahmad Khan, members of the Aga Khan Development Network, as well as other diplomatic representatives. AKDN is an international organisation which “brings together a number of development agencies, institutions, and programmes that work primarily in the poorest parts of Asia and Africa”.

Announcing Obasanjo’s presence at the meeting in Kabul on July 5, Khan had in a tweet captioned a photo, “Today, frank discussions at lunch with former President of Nigeria, Excellency Olusegun Obasanjo, hosted by AKDN Ambassador, (Hijri) Sheherzade, about promoting long term peace, stability, reconciliation and development in Afghanistan.”

Obasanjo, Nigeria’s democratically elected President between 1999 and 2007, had been instrumental to the restoration of peace in many parts of Africa including Liberia, Sudan, Ethiopia, amongst others.

The former Nigerian military head of state between July 1975 and February 1976 had sat on many peace committees including those of the United Nations, African Union and Economic Community of West African States.

IGP Orders: AIG To Probe Activities Of Land Grabbers In Edo

Usman Alkali Baba, Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has ordered the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Zone 5 headquarters, Benin, to investigate the activities of land grabbers in the Okhuoronmi Community in Oredo local government area of Edo State.

This was contained in a statement titled RE: “Bandits in our clients’ farmland in Edo State: Request for the urgent arrest of leaders of the group” signed by the Ag. CP Idowu Owohunwa, Principal Staff Officer to the Inspector General of Police in response to a petition filed by Otamere & Otamere for his claimant, Shalom Jare Ventures ltd and made available to newsmen in Benin City.

According to the statement, “Attached herewith is a copy of a letter dated 27th May 2021 received from Otamere & Otamere chambers, on the above-underlined subject.

“It is the directive of the Inspector General of Police that you investigate and furnish comments.
Speaking to newsmen during a protest in Benin, Operational Manager, Shalom Jare Ventures ltd, Efosa Aguebor alleged that the Ohen of the community, one Ovbokhan Igbinovia has mobilised thugs to his oil palm farm and chased out his workers who were working on the farm.
He said he has made a frantic effort to reclaim the said land but all to no avail.
Aguebor further appealed to relevant agencies to prevail on the said Ovbokhan to leave his farm alone.

All efforts to get the side of Ovbokhan proved abortive as several phone calls put across to him were left unanswered.

However, one of his aides, who identified himself as Festus said the said Ovbokhan was away.

POLITICS: Adams Oshiomhole speaks on alleged plot to return as APC National Chairman amid Party crisis

Adams Oshiomhole

Former Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole has reacted to reports that he is nursing the ambition to return as the national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC ).

In a statement signed by Victor Oshioke, his media aide Oshiomhole who pledged allegiance to the Governor Mai-Mala Buni led Caretaker Committee of the APC accused Festus Keyamo, Minister of State for Labour as the brain behind the fake report.

The statement reads ” Our attention has been drawn to a statement credited to Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, a former National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New Peoples Democratic Party (NPDP) who is now a member of the APC and self styled aide of Minister of Transportation, Chief Rotimi Amaechi”.

“In the said statement widely reported in the media, Chief Eze was quoted as saying that Mr. Festus Keyamo SAN, Hon. Minister of State for Labour and Employment and others were plotting to bring back Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as national chairman of the APC”.

“Ordinarily we would have ignored this nonsensical suggestion. However, it is pertinent to set the records straight and put to rest this ridiculous falsehood being marketed by Eze Chukwuemeka Eze”.

“Festus Keyamo was in the forefront and indeed provided legal support through his personal legal assistants who went to court and argued on behalf of those that filed cases for the removal of Oshiomhole as national chairman of the APC. Keyamo also offered legal advice on the legality of the NEC that was convened for the dissolution of the Oshiomhole led National Working Committee of APC and emergence of the Governor Mai-Mala Buni led Caretaker Committee.

“It is therefore frivolous for any right thinking person to assume that Mr. Keyamo who actively supported the removal of the National chairman elected by over 6, 500 party delegates from across the 36 states and the FCT, because 8 out of 27 Ward executive members purportedly suspended a national party chairman, would now plot to bring the same Oshiomhole back to office”

“It is strange that a serving Minister would share on public Social Media platforms, what he captioned as a “Private and Confidential” legal opinion for Mr President who appointed him, especially considering that he was in the political kitchen when the pot of crisis he is now offering advice on was being cooked”.

“If Keyamo has no ulterior motives behind his sudden change of legal interpretations of relevant aspects of the APC constitution and the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the right channel would have been to sit down with his co Minister, the Attorney General of the federation behind close doors and put forth his arguments.

“Alternatively, he could have sought a private audience with Mr. President or write a confidential memo to Mr. President and explain why his earlier opinion supporting the dissolution of the NWC and setting up of a Caretaker Committee has changed or no longer tenable. Instead he went to the market with his bogus arguments.

“His action is reminiscent of the indiscipline from some senior leaders of the party which Oshiomhole sought to deal with decisively as national chairman.
“A Minister certainly should know better how to communicate his concerns with Mr. President and party leadership in a truly constructive conversation behind closed doors.

“The truth of the matter is that Mr. Keyamo seems to have lost out in the power play and failed to secure the benefits he anticipated in Oshiomhole’s removal from office with the consequent dissolution of the NWC and other structures of the party. This is the main reason for his self serving new legal opinion which contradicts his earlier stance.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole will not be part of any plot to destabilise or ridicule the party in any way or for any reason.

He takes serious exemptions to his name being dragged into an issue that he has no hand in.

“This is an opportunity to further reaffirm Comrade Adams Oshiomhole’s loyalty to the APC under the able leadership of His Excellency, Governor Mai-Mala Buni.

Oshiomhole’s position is that all hands should be on deck to support the Governor Mai-Mala Buni led Caretaker Committee to complete its assignment rather than creating distractions that are counterproductive to the mandate of the committee.

“He congratulates Governor Mai-Mala Buni and the entire members of the Caretaker Committee for their efforts in depleting the ranks of governors of the Peoples Democratic Party by winning 3 of them into the APC fold.

With the successful conduct of the Ward Congresses nationwide, the Committee should be encouraged to proceed with the Local Government Areas, State Congresses and eventually the National Convention of the party”.

FAMILY, A PLACE OF FORGIVENESS…

1. ©️ There is no perfect family.

2. ©️ We do not have perfect parents,
– you are not perfect yourself.
We do not marry a perfect person or we do not have perfect children.

3. ©️ We have complaints from each other. We can not live together without offending one another.

4. ©️ We are constantly disappointed. Yes for so many reasons at different times we are disappointed by one another.

5. ©️ There is no healthy marriage or healthy family without the exercise of forgiveness. Forgiveness is the medicine of family joy and happiness

6. ©️ Forgiveness is vital to our emotional health and spiritual survival. No matter the offence or who is the offender. Without forgiveness, the family becomes an arena of conflict and a fortress of evil.

7. ©️ Without forgiveness, the family becomes sick and unhealthy.

8. ©️ Forgiveness is the asepsis of the soul, the purification of the spirit and the liberation of the heart. No sin is too big to be forgiven.
He who does not forgive does not have peace in his soul and can not have communion with God.

9. ©️ Unforgiving is Evil and a poison that intoxicates and kills the one who refuses to forgive

10. ©️ Keeping heartache of unforgiving in your heart is a self-destructive gesture. It’s auto phage (Virus).

11. ©️ Those who do not forgive are physically, emotionally and spiritually ill. They will suffer in several and severe ways.

For this reasons, the family must be a place of life and not a place of death; a place of forgiveness and not hatred.
A place of paradise and not a place of hell; A healing territory and not a disease;
An internship of forgiveness and not guilt.
*Forgiveness* brings Joy where sorrow has brought sadness; of
Healing where sorrow has caused disease.

A family is a place of support and not of gossip and slander of one another. It must be a place of welcome not a place of rejection. Shame and woe unto those who plant evil about others and who commits their heart to the spirit of unforgiveness. Obey God’s commandments. We are family and not enemies.

When any family is going through challenges all they need is support and not problems. Not evil advice nor petition against one.

*I pray to God Almighty Father, to intercede in every home that’s going through series of problems, breakages, either foundational curses, or wrong parties intruders and thereabout and foster peace and tranquility into their home through Christ our Lord.*
